Northwest Plunge

I am a sucker for a cocktail with layers: visible or of the flavor variety. Lucky for both of us, this cocktail has both. It is light and citrusy, but, also bold. A great dive into spring.

Northwest Plunge

Serves 1

2 oz bourbon
2-3 oz Author Mead Co. canned semi-dry draft mead
.5. oz lemon juice
.5 oz honey simple syrup (1 part honey to 1 part water)
.5 oz Orasella maraschino cherry syrup (what’s left in the jar after you use your cherries)
3-4 dashes angostura bitters
lemon peel and Orasella maraschino cherry to garnish

In a collins glass, combine bourbon, lemon, and honey simple syrup. Add ice to the glass then top with draft mead. Next, place a bar spoon in the glass and gently move the ice to once side creating a small well. Slowly pour your cherry syrup into the well in one constant stream. Allow the cherry syrup to sink to the bottom of the glass. Remove the spoon very slowly as to not disturb the layers. Last, create a bitters float on top of your ice by closely dashing angostura bitters on the surface of the cocktail. You should have 3 visual layers.

Garnish with a long wide lemon peel and an Orasella maraschino cherry.

Give the cocktail a stir with a straw before enjoying.
